Sheshan Catholic Church
Erected atop Sheshan Hill, Songjiang county in Shanghai Suburbs, Sheshan Catholic Church occupies and area of 6,700 square meters and with a height of 20 meters. It is famed as the grandest church in East Asia.

The church was originally built in 1871 and was renovated last time in 1925. It was designed by French missionary as a Baroque style church, and was partially built by Chinese traditional methods, thus a combination of the Chinese and the Western. There are 3,000 seats in the magnificent church, with perfect sound effect.

The 14 Stations of the church, each of which has a relief sculpture depicting the suffering of Jesus. At the mid level in an open square there are there shrines.

On Holy Virgin’s Day every May, pilgrims will swarm here from all places in the country to line up in long queues in entering the church for Mass. It is really a spectacular occasion.
